a Movement
How Does Research & Development
Create A Movement?
Let me explain...
For the past 10 years, I've noticed that most people
don't change "in the gap".
People do change, but mostly it's adaptation to the gap,
and a reformation through strengths, constantly trying to
find ways to do more of what they are doing, and hoping it
solved the problem in the gap.
I figured out over time that acceptance is the most
difficult thing for people, because we want to live up to
the mythical societal standard of being enough...whatever
enough is.
Being stubborn, persistent and self-absorbed, I fought
the status quo because I could see that trying to change was
nothing more than suffering, and the more people worked on
changing who they were to be who they were "supposed" to
be...the suffering got worse.
I wrote a book called CPR for the Soul because I saw that
people were giving up their souls in exchange for the merits
of culture, but people don't get that the gap is ok, and
that we live out of our values and our motives don't change
over the course of our lives.
Then I wrote Upping the Downside for professionals
because I saw what was happening to the world and that soon,
the professionals would in fact surrender their own
standards of living because of globalization and
fractionalization...and then after calling the last huge
downturn, I knew that in order to survive this new normal,
this huge paradigm shift, that we would have to live inside
of less consumption.
Yet, what drove consumption?
Suffering in the gap.
So, I attacked the gap with engagement, and began trying
to help people understand that acceptance of themselves and
others was a path of enlightenment, of awakening, for once
you accept who you are, warts and all, and forgot the
impossible societal standard that has emerged from no one,
but everyone, that healing in the Century of Self, a century
of unbridled consumption and striving for this impossible
standard could be made moot.
In spending the past four years writing and re-writing,
and testing and re-testing flawless living, the name came
from Steve Wilke to replace flawless coaching, the model I
had built, I came to realize it would do NO good to help
people accept and understand their gaps, if it meant leaving
them in no-person's land in the process.
What benefit will it be to you if you gain the whole
world but lose your own soul? (Mark 8:36)
And what benefit will it be to you if you gain your soul,
but can't feed yourself? (Mike Jay)
Whatever Integral IS...it has to feed somebody.
Neither giving up our souls, nor giving up our means of
daily bread holds any advantage!
So, I went to work to try to understand, what help would
I be if my own model merely left people, happily standing in
their gaps?
Over the past year, I've struggled mightily with my own
gaps, and realizing who I was and what I really wanted and
what gaps were in the middle of all of that, I came to
realize that it would take more than Turquoise Tribes...a
group I founded in 2007, to address what Godin spoke about
in his speech.
Yet, I had and still have so much to learn about
interdependence and collaboration, it pains me to look in
the mirror and the sheer weight of reaching out often is
more than I can bear, but something inside of me is
energizing me to keep at the status quo, to push hard enough
in turning myself inside out that I energize this movement.
What is this movement against blank slate?
Why is it so important now?
How are we going to make it real for people...to be able
to stand in their own gaps and relish the happiness of
acceptance?
I have a plan.
THIS PLAN involves you.
You are not here by accident.
My role is to energize you, to collect you and to inspire
you to lead and follow with me the path that creates a new
paradigm of being, doing, having and becoming which
unleashes the human spirit, and unshackles it from the bonds
of blank slate.
It is NO LONGER good enough to be anything you want to
be, but to find the path of your unfolding and to make
yourself available to the world, to me, to us and to those
who are suffering in the shadow of trying to live up to a
standard which is an impossible, and fleeting, constantly
moving place where no one really resides, yet we all seem to
aspire to become.
It is a trance we are entrained with that keeps us
consuming beyond our means, striving to own, and control
more than we need, and to pile up closet after closet,
garage after storage of "things" which have no relevancy to
our lives.
They are artifacts of the blank slate, the PR driven
Century of Self, the incessant demand for more...all the
while billions starve from the lack of basics, of nourishing
food and healthy drinking water.
Yet, as we CREDIT CARD CHARGE our way to enlightenment,
enduring one experience after another, piling on one set of
skills after another, we gasp for the breath of clarity and
grown dim as the light of our own enlightenment flickers
like a fluorescent bulb in need of changing.
YES, we need change, but most of it requires us to change
back to ourselves and becoming of who we are, instead of who
we are supposed to be.
However, let's not kid ourselves.
NONE of us wants to hand over our hard-won standards of
living in the process, and we crave for the peace that was
always at the end of the blank slate rainbow, if we could
just make it to "someday I'll."
The movement I struggle to create involves an approach
which will scare most people, because we have huge sunk
costs in our current ways of being.
EVEN if the path I'm holding the light on was a better
path, there is the inevitable inertia of the old paradigm
clunking along with the weight of past choices driving us
past our exit.
It will take time, NOT because the waking surround that
Flawless Living sings can't be turned on a dime, but because
once you're there, things look different.
When you stare at the gap from in it, things look
different than when you stare at a gap from outside.
So, whatever movement we create, it has to be
whole-making and it has to taken into consideration that we
are not the only people on the planet who are trying to wake
up.
My plan is simple, and it is complex, and I hope it has
the requisite order needed to "fund the gap" for you, for
me, for all of us who step outside ourselves into the light
of acceptance.
So, that is the background of my thinking, and now I need
to put forward the ideas I have and subject them to your
feedback
Phase 1: 3 months
Create a tribal council of elders that will support the
movement and work for both pay and play to forward the
cause.
Form a tribal circle that can surround the plan and
protect it during it's early stages without putting so much
pressure on itself that it implodes the formation of
supporting casts.
Allow for self-organization.
Fund the start-up with fresh capital, but offset risk
with accountability-->mine.
Model the solution in the gap.
Phase 2: 3 months
Attract others to the movement, and shield them from
risk, being the funding of the gap with guarantees that
produce tension in the management system to create
innovation and success in the larger gap of transition to
the new normal.
Phase 3: 24 months
Attract and use a proprietary mix of innovation that
advantages the transfer of knowledge to a developing world
in a form of generic pricing made palatable to the emerging
markets in volume.
Stage events in 24 cities from Jan 2011 to Dec 2012, at
the rate of one per month, using our surround circle as
champions of change featuring an integral enlightenment
model that designs away the gaps created through acceptance
and begins to fund the enlightenment in such a way that the
system synergy is allowed to emerge different properties of
development.
Phase 4: 2-10 years
Continue the generification of knowledge expanding out of
the west into the east offsetting the shift in center of
world gravity to the east, enabling larger and larger
passive streams of income through the distribution
Use the synergy created in the funding mechanism to
continue to develop "nano, micro, and niche siting real
estate which allows for the orchestration of interest and
demand into the system.
The goal has to be to off-set the negative demand
scenario in the west, with demand stemming from eastern
demographics, during what could be a long western
deflationary cycle, in large part borne by the west.
