and Personality
The following paragraphs concern the study of MIKE's
personality, as induced by the positions of the planets
and Rising sign. Some of the character traits mentioned
may seem completely contradictory and incompatible. This
is because the rough-hewn personality is a rarity.
Usually, individuals are made up of a subtle
orchestration of many different tones or aspects.
However, serious introspection or detailed analysis
should make it possible to distinguish the opposing or
diverging images comprising MIKE's overall character,
and perhaps, in time, find the best and most harmonious
way to integrate them.
MIKE lives in the here-and-now, immediately obeying
his impulses. He is guided by a fire burning within him.
He rarely heeds the warnings of reflection and reason;
instead, he listens to his instincts, as if his
unconscious were perpetually emerging. This is the
source of his spontaneity and passion. Because he
himself is continually being born, he champions all
phenomena symbolic of birth: he enjoys breaking ground,
beginning, clearing. He has little interest for pursuing
the new ideas he brought into being, because his inner
flame is always urging him to move on quickly to the
next innovation. He is not a good manager. MIKE is
straightforward. When he commits himself, he does so
with mind, body, and soul. Restraint and moderation are
concepts which are totally foreign to him, because he
lives by the fullness of his instinct, the force of his
desire. Due to his energetic temperament, his
determination immediately invents the action necessary
to fulfill his desires. It goes without saying that his
attitude engenders certain risks. Sometimes his
impetuousness, or a lack of maturity or patience, or a
keen appetite for experience leads MIKE into a blind
alley. But risk is a part of his life. Since his fervor
is immune to calculation, second thoughts, and cunning,
he has no fear. He is the type of hero whose courageous
deeds are difficult to distinguish from acts of bravado
or of sheer foolhardiness. MIKE's top priority is to
take action, immediately. Delay is torture to him. He is
in a hurry to live, to take his urges and impulses to
their ultimate conclusion, even though his lack of
forethought may actually make his goal take longer to
accomplish. He rarely evaluates obstacles objectively:
instead, he dashes into the fray, bristling with
determination, oblivious to the size or scope of the
difficulties. He rides home triumphantly, whether he has
battered his head against a brick wall or met no
resistance whatsoever. But he has a true hero's courage
and vitality: he is undaunted by challenges and real
danger, to the surprise of outside observers. Like
everyone, MIKE sometimes experiences failure. But he
never despairs or becomes overly discouraged by it; it
never overcomes him. He doesn't see it as a tragedy; he
just figures he missed that time, but next time, he
won't. In fact, he'll muster even more strength and
power for the next attack, since he is convinced he can
succeed. MIKE sometimes has problems finishing something
he has started. Once the glamour of the initial urge and
enthusiasm is dulled, he loses his some of his potency,
and finds himself faced with a sluggish material reality
which does not always inspire him. This failing can
sometimes sniggle at him, so it is important for him to
tackle short-term tasks only. Of course, you will have
recognized all of the above qualities as being the stuff
of which great leaders are made. Sharing his enthusiasm
and drive, and delegating the follow-up tasks to more
patient assistants, he can accomplish amazing things.
Stirred by all the stimuli of the outside world, this
animal is indifferent to nothing. As a result, his
emotionalism can sometimes trouble or destabilize him.
Moreover, he is eternally impassioned. And since passion
is by definition uncontrollable, once it is kindled it
is either consumed or consuming. The fire will either
fuel him, and drive him along, or sputter in
frustration. He should be aware of his penchant for
excess. If he is subject to a negative passion, he can
be extremely unpleasant to live with: tactless,
irritable, heedless to everything except his impulses,
which are not always reasonable. He must channel his
energy in positive directions. MIKE's vigor is only an
outer armor. Although he may seem to embody strength
itself, full of self-assurance and courage, he has a
vulnerable underbelly: his inner self. As a result, the
quality of his emotional relationships has an important
impact on his overall well-being. MIKE should take the
time to get a good education. It will counteract his
tendency to oversimplify. People and things are more
complex than he can imagine, and his intellectual
efforts will help him understand them.
Due to the influence of Taurus rising, MIKE has a slow
but steady, easily harnessed temperament, which thrives
on stability and pragmatism. The sense of touch is
primordial to him, and he has a special feeling for
physical contact with textures and sensations. As a
result, he is sensual and luxury-loving, and appreciates
good food almost to excess. Open to other people and
social interaction, he enjoys analyzing and interpreting

Fortunately, MIKE's exuberant, aggressive nature is
balanced and attenuated by a pragmatism which is a
necessary ingredient in effectively reaching an
achievement. His energy is obstinate and remarkably
persistent. He appreciates work which has been done
carefully, knows just what he wants - and is unlikely to
back down or make a compromise. He has leadership
potential, and is able to take on a heavy load of
responsibility. A generous form of sensitivity makes him
sincerely sympathetic to the suffering of other people.
Beneath a rough, gruff exterior, and although not
especially tactful or diplomatic, he is a sociable
person whose good intentions are heartfelt.
Born in the three days prior to the New Moon's
appearance, MIKE is said to be of the " Balsamic Moon "
type. This soli-lunar configuration gives him a
spiritualistic character closely attached to generous
humanitarian ideals. He is sometimes sorely tried to
limit himself to the narrow scope of individual
ambition. Indeed, he aims for a humanitarian ideal which
would include the outcasts and the unfortunate: he
fervently hopes the meek will inherit the Earth. To
bring about this ideal, he is likely to seize every
resource placed at his disposal: physical effort, money
(if he has it), speech, his writings, and his poetic or
artistic talents. However, he should be wary of his
unconscious guilt feelings. Actually, there is no reason
for him to devote himself to his mission entirely; a
simple daily effort should suffice to express his
philosophy and free his conscience. Usually, the three
days preceding the New Moon will be time in the monthly
lunar cycle most favorable to his activities and his
general energy level.
Due to the influence of Jupiter dominating his birth
chart, MIKE has undeniable social ambition and many
resources with which to achieve it (see CAREER
POTENTIAL). Relatively confident in himself and his
abilities, he has the potential to be a leader and
chief. It therefore seems probable that he will rise to
success. However, he should question himself about what
sort of success he seeks, and at what price. He should
be aware that the taste of victory may be bitter if he
finds he has sacrificed other aspects of life, like
love, friendship, or creativity, to obtain it. He must
consciously select what he is willing to invest in order
to secure honor, money, and social consideration.
Temperament
The graph below reveals the various influences on
MIKE's nature in relation to the percentage value of
each element. These values were calculated according to
the number of planets and the hierarchical position of
each one (dominant, luminary, etc.). The basic
personality tendencies as described here will no doubt
be counteracted to some degree by the environmental,
psychological, or emotional needs outlined in the next
chapter. Nevertheless, they form the roots of his
psyche, anchoring it as it grows and develops.
MIKE experiences his inner life as a process of
growth and maturation, nurtured by his involvement with
others and the positive and negative encounters this
generates.
Relatively extroverted, MIKE leads a life which is open
to the outside world. His personal consciousness is
forged by the heat of outer events. He is inclined to
adopt the most objective viewpoint possible; to be
pragmatic, and perhaps even materialistic.
While he contributes to important social causes or
collective ideals, MIKE tends to keep his individual
identity intact. For this reason, although he may become
personally involved in social affairs, he is likely to
resist any project he will be unable to lead himself,
according to his own individual direction. He tends to
identify himself with an activity with social
implications, and attempts to know himself through this
activity.
Sentimental and emotional, MIKE lives in a world which
is in continual contact with his dreams and
subconscious. He cannot live without love, and, like
water which flows into and takes on the shape of the
vessel which contains it, he is always ready to submerge
himself in another person. Stirred by forces he does not
control, he may be aroused by passions which are
impervious to the restraints of reason and logic. He is
an emotive creature in harmony with the flow of his
feelings, impulses, and urges.
The numerous contradictions and tensions which are a
recurrent feature of MIKE's astral theme balance each
other out and endow him with a stable, well-tempered
character, after all. Indeed, they are especially likely
to protect him from unsolvable frustrations and, in
terms of reality, will enable him to acquire a certain
social and professional success without too much effort
on his part. At that point, he must be careful not to
take on too many responsibilities. His confidence in his
ability to accomplish things may make him spread himself
too thin.
MIKE lives chiefly in the moment and expresses his
energies immediately, tempered by the circumstances.
Always on the move, he is unconsciously seeking a point
of stability and balance which eludes him. The skills he
displays as a mover and doer, as a leader, are animated
by basic feelings of insecurity. As a result, at some

Psychological Analysis
The following psychological study is a " blind "
analysis which cannot take into consideration factors
proper to MIKE's social background or education.
Nevertheless, it describes the basic structure and
dynamic of his psyche as the result of an interplay of
various influences; that is, without confining it to
certain categories or arbitrarily putting a label on it.
Certain contradictions may appear, but they are an
integral part of the paradoxes and ambivalence of his
nature. It is impossible for us to predict which
tendency will win out: that will depend on MIKE's
decision.
Consciousness and The ideal of Self:
MIKE needs others in order to structure himself. He
intuitively senses this need, and seeks a balance
between his individual ambitions and his need to give to
others and be loved and recognized in return, although
it sometimes eludes him. Marriage and friendship could
be realms to which he is especially devoted, but they
may also prove to be a source of conflict and
disillusion, bitterness and failure.
MIKE has a paternal complex and, as a result, some
trouble finding his identity. Perhaps his father was
absent physically or emotionally during his childhood,
which deprived him of the patterns or models which are
usually helpful in structuring a personality. Because he
lacked the security which is often provided by a
paternal presence, as well as the examples of behavior
to follow in confronting the difficulties inherent in
every life, he was force to protect himself against
negative influences and find his own system in order to
grow and feel secure. Although this system was quite
useful to him as a childhood, it has now settled in to
such a degree that it interferes with his evolution.
Psychological defense mechanisms and crutches which were
once useful now encumber his mind or inhibit his
developmental efforts. As a result, in certain
situations, it is difficult for him to assert himself,
and he tends to remain an awkward or passive observer.
Because his authoritarian urges are mainly directed at
himself rather than others, he sometimes feels guilty
about his behavior. He judges himself severely, and
sometimes punishes himself by setting difficult tasks
for himself. Gradually, he should build up a strong
inner discipline and acquire the strength to face the
problems of existence in a detached and mature way.
MIKE is an ardent free thinker and individualist who is
convinced that his most precious basic values are
freedom and independence. He has thrown off what he
perceives as the burden of the convention and customs of
his social class and adopted an innovative lifestyle.
His passionate convictions, bordering on proselytism,
sometimes trouble his relationships, as he may be an
uncompromising, authoritarian, and arrogant partner. He
should learn to recognize his own limitations and accept
the responsibilities he has to other people, or he is
liable to find himself continually embroiled in
conflicting relationships. The roots of his somewhat
extreme behavior probably lie in his relationship with
his father or his teachers in childhood and adolescence.
For one reason or another, MIKE may have rejected the
paternal image or refused to identify with his father
and adopt him as a behavioral model, in the same way as
he now refuses to adopt any values related to
convention, tradition, or widespread usage. In every
important life decision he makes as an adult, he is
forced to rely on himself to elaborate the appropriate
behavior, and the limits he must impose on his desires
in relation to reality and the Law.
Adaptation and Sensitivity:
Hypersensitive, MIKE is extremely receptive to the
mood in his surroundings. He is unconsciously able to
perceive the parapsychic signals or aura people give
off, in addition to their words. As a result, he is
extremely compassionate and ready to devote himself to
their well-being. His imagination has formulated the
dream of an ideal life, and he sometimes feels
ill-equipped for the realities of this existence. He
tends to dodge difficult situations. With his partner,
he seeks fusion.
MIKE is extremely sensitive and perceptive. He
luxuriates in tenderness and gentleness more than
violent passion. Because he abhors any form of violence,
and is disturbed by the absence of harmony, he has
developed a tact and diplomacy which make his relations
with others smooth and easy.
Because he discovered his individuality early in life,
MIKE quickly developed an original and independent
identity. His first taste of liberty may have led him to
challenge the education and values he received from
family and class tradition, and he was able to forge a
strong, original personality and philosophy. His
relationships are usually free of conflict, because he
is able to reconcile his need for independence with his
desire for affection. However, his partners should be

Love and Sensuality:
MIKE's sensitivity may sometimes overwhelm his
partners, and his compassion for the other is profound.
He readily sacrifices his own interest to others, to
provide help and assistance. A romantic as well as an
idealist, he sometimes lacks discernment in the choice
of his partners. He is fairly confused and evasive, and

Nevertheless, he is capable of devoting himself entirely
to the person he loves, but he has a tendency to
daydream and become lost in himself.
MIKE's birth chart indicates an emotional function which
is expressed in a direct and fairly impulsive way. He
enjoys reaching out to other people and making
discoveries. An eternal teenager with his gaze riveted
on the future, he is imbued with an eminently subjective
and personal idealism.
MIKE is a fairly emotive and unstable person, sometimes
overwhelmed by his affectionate urges and the illusions
he finds comforting and reassuring. In an exalted mood,
he may embark on the wildest dreams, or passionately
commit himself to a relationship. However, the cruelest
sort of disillusionment may ensue, when the partner he
idealized to such an unreasonable degree reveals herself
unable to live up to the image he has projected. The
only way he can stop fooling himself is to learn to use

innumerable opportunities to apply his communications
skills to a great career. Moreover, he should be careful
of his nerves, which are fairly high-strung. Any
physical fitness activity would be beneficial; an
Oriental discipline such as Yoga or Tai-chi-chuan would
teach him how to relax and improve his control of his
nervous and mental energies.
MIKE has a mind with an insatiable appetite for
knowledge, and an exceptional ability to learn. Without
trying too hard, he could probably accumulate
encyclopedic erudition. His intellectual curiosity is
such that it is sometimes a drawback: he sometimes has
trouble limiting himself to a single subject without
being distracted by a multitude of others. Discipline
and a conscious effort at organization will be of great
help to him if he wants to deepen his learning and
judgment. Once his intellectual faculties are
disciplined, he is likely to succeed in any of the
following fields: teaching, historical scholarship,
advertising, writing (journalistic or literary), travel,
etc: in fact, communication in any form.
MIKE has a great deal of intuition, but sometimes has
problems organizing his thought processes and making an
intellectual commitment. The concepts of boundary and
structure are inimical to his mind, which is open and
all-encompassing, premonitory and web-like. His thoughts
may be verbally indeterminate, vague, and ill defined.
He tends to understand or sense things globally, without
always noticing their component parts: usually, he can't
see the trees for the forest. In daily life, although
his perceptions are lively and subtle, he may display a
kind of absent-mindedness, out of a fear of annoying
people with his shrewdness or of fighting to assert
himself. His imagination sometimes escapes from the
confines of logic, cringing from a confrontation with
reality. This unwillingness to face the real world may
cause problems for him in his relationships with other
people as well as in his career.
As an intellectual, MIKE has a curiosity so lively it
borders on the inquisitorial. His interest in dark
secrets and hidden knowledge leads him to do all sorts
of arcane research. He is both sensitive and pragmatic,
with an intuition so keen he seems to be able to sniff
out and expose the complex, mysterious inner workings of
both systems and individuals. Although he is sometimes
unable to express the findings of his investigations
clearly, he is nevertheless an expert in symbols,
hieroglyphics, runes, and other codes and ciphers.
Rather ironic and sometimes cynical, he strikes out with
his venomous wit the way a poisonous snake neutralizes
its prey. His doubts and uncertainties may sometimes
lead to nearly unbearable anxiety or anguish.

Energy and Ability to take Action:
MIKE has abundant energy and a strong sex drive. He
expresses emotional urges in an intensely physical or
passionate way. His ardent personality may lead him to
direct the strength of his character into a battle, a
devouring ambition, or an obstinate rebellion. If he
cannot find a way to exhaust his energy, it may turn
against him. In a relationship, he enjoys wielding some
authority, and delights in mystifying and fascinating
his beholders. Conversely, his intensity may elicit
strong reactions from others.
MIKE's behavior and attitude are unique. He is sometimes
excessive, and tends to be short-tempered; he may
quickly become aggressive if he encounters the slightest
opposition or resistance. Determined and obstinate in
the pursuit of his goals, he is sometimes disappointed
when he realizes that the object of his desire no longer
interests him once he has attained it. Because his will
mingles with his personal desire, he tends to be
motivated by a quest for his own personal satisfaction,
and sometimes finds it difficult to commit himself to
activities which do not concern him personally. This
behavioral characteristic may bring about some conflicts
with the people around him, both at home and at work. In
tense moments, he tends to become a bit aggressive.
Dominant
Astrological Characteristics
Jupiter is the first dominant in MIKE's astral chart.
In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the
significance of this fact:
In traditional astrology, Jupiter has always been
considered as the Great Benefactor, the planet of luck
and success such as personal fortune, social prominence,
professional prestige, high political position... The
Jupiterian bounty is peerless! In psychological terms,
this planet has a much vaster significance. As the
biggest planet in the solar system, it does preside over
the process of personal expansion, interpreted to be
fitting into society better and finding an appropriate
match between one's individual ambitions and the
aspirations of the group. These growth is accompanied by
a feeling of self-confidence, which, in turn, buoys up
an even greater externalization and expansion of the
ego. Hence the planet's flattering reputation. But this
snowball effect (Jupiter smiles and the world smiles
with him), in which social skills magnify confidence and
boldness reaps many rewards, betrays the negative side
of Jupiter: extreme and excess. Although grandeur was
the characteristic of the " king of the gods ", errors
of judgment, poor taste, and sometimes selfishness and
pride are also likely to be part of the Jupiterian
package. It is important to note that the extension of
the ego may be a form of escape; it is tempting to hide
behind one's popularity and social success, which are
fairly easy to obtain, rather than be really demanding
with oneself. The Jupiterian has a tendency to amplify
his qualities out of compensation, to avoid seeing his
weaknesses and flaws. As a result, he must be aware of
the risk of over identifying with his social mask, which
would cause him to neglect his inner self and deep
nature.
Mercury is the second dominant in MIKE's astral
chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the
significance of this fact:
According to Greek myth, Mercury (or Hermes, whose
name derives etymologically from the piles of rocks
which marked trails and guided travelers) was the
messenger of the gods. He carried orders from Olympus to
the mortals on Earth. The child of the illegitimate
union of Zeus with Maia, Mercury was born " unknown to
the immortal gods " and had to win his place among them
by trickery, cleverness, and cunning. This is why he
became the vagabond deity of travelers and wanderers. He
is the instinctive foe of the settled, who see him as an
outcast roaming on the outskirts of society: a pariah, a
thief, and a swindler. As mater of the sign of Gemini,
the Twins, he symbolizes the brother - the alter-ego who
teaches us as much as we teach him, and is associated
with adolescence, a period of intense intellectual
discovery. Mercury thus symbolizes lively, sparkling
wit, mobility in any form, mental exchange and
interaction. As a result, a person strongly ruled by
Mercury is quite likely to be clever and skillful. If
Mercury is " afflicted ", his intellectual velocity may
sometimes become mere mental hyperactivity. In any case,
his skills are a great resource in the social realm. He
communicates easily and effectively, orally or in
writing. His ability to unite and transmit would be a
good resource in diplomatic or commercial endeavors.
Venus is the third dominant in MIKE's astral chart.
In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the
significance of this fact:
In traditional astrology, Venus (or Aphrodite, her
Greek name) is the planet of love. A source of universal
attraction, this planet corresponds to the original urge
which bonds two human beings together in love. Venus is
thus both the magnetism which brings human beings
together (not lust, which is symbolized by Mars, but the
object which attracts lust) and the gift of love. This
ambiguity is interpreted astrologically by the fact that
Venus rules two houses of the Zodiac: in Taurus, Venus
symbolizes the awakening to bodily lust, and in Libra,
the bond of marriage. As a result, Venus may take on
very different aspects depending on the individual's
degree of awareness. Likewise, this ambiguity explains
Aphrodite's equivocal conduct in Greek myth and her
innumerable couplings and motherhood. Depending on the
legend, she may embody brutal, passionate love (with
